Former Ohio State football coach, and three time National Champion, Urban Meyer is reportedly in talks with FOX Sports to join their broadcast team.

Urban Meyer has only been retired from coaching for two and a half weeks and already appears to want to be back around the game he loves so dearly.

Here is what was reported by Michael McCarthy of The Sporting News:

"“Meyer, who won three national championships between Ohio State and Florida, is being given the choice to work either as a color commentator in the game booth or as a studio analyst at Fox.”"

The article also stated:

"“[t]he network envisions Urban Meyer as the kind of big-time coaching name/TV talent who could potentially put its “Fox College Football Pregame” show on par with Kirk Herbstreit’s “College GameDay” at ESPN.”“Fox feels like they have enough good (college football) games now to really compete with ESPN,”"

If Meyer in fact decides to move back to the television booth, one would have to wonder how he would manage being both the Assistant Athletic Director at Ohio State and a member of the broadcast team at FOX.

For now, those details remain to be seen as Meyer has not signed a deal just yet, but do not be surprised to see the former coach offering his expertise on television again starting next season. FOX Sports owns the majority rights to the Big Ten Conference which would provide Urban with the opportunity to possibly call an Ohio State football game from the booth.

He would more than likely appear on the Big Ten Network regularly joining recently hired analyst and former Buckeye great James Laurinitis and many others who have previously dawned the famed Scarlet and Gray.

More from Ohio State Football

Among other notable former Ohio State players to be employed by FOX Sports are Cris Carter, Robert Smith and Chris Spielman.

In between his coaching stints at Florida and Ohio State, Meyer worked with ESPN during the 2011 season. Meyer used his time away from the sideline to tend to some health related concerns as well as realize he was not ready to step fully away from coaching just yet.

In 2012, Meyer reaffirmed his feelings from just a year prior as he was on the sidelines during the National Championship Game watching Alabama and Notre Dame go toe to toe. Ultimately, the Crimson Tide boat raced the Fighting Irish as Meyer had a prime viewpoint for the standard in which he was chasing at Ohio State.

Just two years and three quarterbacks later, Urban Meyer and The Ohio State Buckeyes took home the inaugural College Football Playoff trophy, defeating Alabama in the process. That completed “The Chase” Urban Meyer had been on since his time away.
