Ohio State Football: Buckeyes could be top 2 draft picks
There is a good chance two Ohio State football players could be top five picks in the NFL draft and possibly the first two players taken.
After Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa was injured he decided to shut things down for the rest of the season to rehab. Why not, he is assured of being a top five pick in the NFL draft, and possibly the first player chosen if he is healthy come April. Now Bosa may be joined in the top five by another Ohio State football player if Dwayne Haskins decides to turn pro.
Haskins was considered by many to be one of the two best quarterback prospects in this year’s draft class but most had Justin Herbert slightly ahead of him. Now that Herbert has decided to return to Oregon for his senior season, Haskins’ value has skyrocketed.
If he were to be the first quarterback taken in the draft as many are now speculating he is almost certain to be a top five pick. And there is a good chance he could be the first player off the board.
A look at the top quarterbacks taken in the last 10 drafts will explain why.
- 2009: (1) Matthew Stafford, (5) Mark Sanchez

With 14 quarterbacks chosen in the top five in those drafts, and seven as the top pick overall, it’s very likely Haskins will be a high draft choice if he decides to turn pro. And his stock probably wouldn’t be any higher if he chose to play one more season of college ball.
The 2020 quarterback draft is projected to be a deep one and It would be hard to improve on the stats Haskins has put up this season. He has completed 70.2 percent of his passes for 4,580 yards and 47 touchdowns while only throwing 8 interceptions.
Haskins’ skill set is suited to the pro game as he is a strong-armed pocket passer with decent mobility. Combine those traits with his stats and it’s a certainty he will be coveted by teams in need of a quarterback.
The last time two Ohio State football players were top five NFL draft picks was in 2016 when Joey Bosa was taken third and Ezekiel Elliott was chosen one spot behind him. Now, Joey’s younger brother Nick and Dwayne Haskins could very well be top five picks, and there is a possibility they will be the first two players chosen.
