2014:

In the inaugural season of the College Football Playoff, the Buckeyes were ranked 16th in the first ever College Football Playoff rankings. After a series of wins the Buckeyes slowly rose from 16th to 14th to 8th to 6th after defeating the Michigan Wolverines in the regular season finale.

After a historic and dominating 59-0 victory over Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship, the Buckeyes proved to the College Football Playoff committee that they deserved the 4th and final spot in the playoff over TCU and Baylor.

Despite the doubt all season long, the Buckeyes proved their worth to the rest of the country. As many remember, once the Buckeyes were chosen in the playoff the rest was history.

The Buckeyes went on to beat #1 Alabama in the Sugar Bowl and beat #2 Oregon in the 2014 National Championship Game.

2018:

The Buckeyes were ranked #10 in the first College Football Playoff rankings this season. Similar to the 2014 season, the Buckeyes let their play do to the talking for the committee to notice.

After the recent blowout win against #4 Michigan the Buckeyes rose 4 spots and snuck into #6 heading into the Big Ten Championship.

Heading into the conference championship against #21 Northwestern, the Buckeyes have their backs up against the wall as their playoff hopes seem to be as impossible as they were at this same time in 2014.
