Ohio State Football: Could this year be similar to 2014 for the Buckeyes?
2014:
After Braxton Miller’s injury, J.T Barrett became the starting quarterback for the Buckeyes. After a 34-17 win against Navy to start off the season, the #5 ranked Buckeyes lost to Virginia Tech at home by two touchdowns.
Following that disappointing loss, the media, the College Football Playoff committee and even Buckeye Nation wrote this team off. All faith was lost in the 2014 Buckeyes.
However, Coach Meyer led his team to 10 straight wins, including wins against #7 Michigan State and Michigan. Unfortunately, rising star quarterback and potential Heisman Trophy contender J.T. Barrett broke his ankle on a run play in the fourth quarter of the Michigan game.
Heading into the Big Ten Championship against #11 Wisconsin, the Buckeyes fate rested upon the shoulders of Cardale Jones.
2018:
Acting head coach Ryan Day led the Buckeyes to a hot 3-0 start including a win against #15 TCU at AT&T Stadium. Upon Urban Meyer’s return, the Buckeyes won four straight games with an impressive 27-26 win against #9 Penn State in Happy Valley led by Buckeyes quarterback Dwayne Haskins.
Similar to the 2014 Buckeyes, all faith and championship hopes were dissipated for the #2 ranked Buckeyes after a 29 point loss to unranked Purdue in an emotional environment on the road. After that disappointing loss, the Buckeyes bounced back to win the remainder of their regular season games with a victory against #24 Michigan State and a dominating beat down against #4 Michigan 62-39 at home.
The Buckeyes face #21 Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship Game this Saturday in Indianapolis.
