Dwayne Haskins led the Ohio State football team to a 62- 39 victory Saturday with one of the finest performances ever by a QB in “The Game”.

There was an expectation of a terrific quarterback duel between Dwayne Haskins and Shea Patterson entering Saturday’s Ohio State-Michigan game. Both quarterbacks performed well but Haskins won the battle, hands down.

The numbers the redshirt sophomore registered were off the chart and for the majority of the game he had the Buckeye offense clicking at a high level.

First let’s compare the stats of the two quarterbacks.

Patterson was 20-34 passing for three touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 13 yards on 6 carries (2.2 yards per carry).

Haskins completed 20 of his 31 passes for 396 yards and 6 touchdowns. He also added another 34 yards on the ground on 7 carries for a 4.9 average.

The offense also accounted for 55 of the 62 points which is the most points ever scored by Ohio State against Michigan. The previous high was 50 points set in 1961 and matched during the 1968 season.

Haskins seemed to be in command from the first drive on. With Michigan playing press coverage early Haskins hit on slant patterns with the final one a 24 yard score to freshman Chris Olave.

He continued hitting receivers on crossing patterns so Michigan started playing more zone coverage. It took Haskins some time to adjust, but after a couple of series he did and found receivers in soft spots in the zone.

Haskins also came up big when it was needed most.

Michigan scored two touchdowns with under a minute to play at the end of the first half to pull within two points. Haskins led the offense on a 74 yard drive ending with a field goal as time expired in the half. I’m sure that momentum swing  had to help as the Buckeyes outscored the Wolverines 17-0 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.

For good measure, Haskins threw three more touchdown passes in the fourth quarter. His overall play from start to finish was simply outstanding.

Dwayne Haskins seemingly breaks another Ohio State or Big Ten record every game he plays as he continues to pile up the numbers. However, his performance in ‘The Game’ was his finest hour.
