Ohio State Football: No. 10 Buckeyes have slim chance of making the CFP
The Ohio State football team is No. 10 once again in the CFP rankings and it will be an uphill battle to move up to the No. 4 spot.
The Week 13 CFP Rankings are out and the Buckeyes are still ranked No. 10. It would take a series of upsets for Ohio State to be included in the College Football Playoff even by defeating Michigan Saturday and then Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship Game.
Buckeye fans like to say just win and we are in but I doubt that would be the case unless some strange things happen the next two weeks.
It is possible for that to happen though. Remember the 2007 season when Ohio State was all but done with two weeks remaining but played in the BCS Championship Game after a number of upsets occurred?
Check out the situations with the teams ranked 1 through 9 not named Michigan and you will see Ohio State at least has a chance at moving up to the 4th spot, even if it’s not a promising one at this point.

Alabama (1) is in by running the table. Even with a loss to Auburn or in the SEC Championship game the Tide would get the 4th spot over the Buckeyes. Ohio State fans must root for Alabama to win out.
Clemson (2) plays South Carolina Saturday, a rivalry game, and No. 24 Pittsburgh in the ACC Championship Game. Would you bet against the Tigers staying undefeated?
Notre Dame (3) only has to defeat 5-6 USC. Strange things tend to happen when these two teams face each other but I don’t think the Trojans can stay up with the Irish this year.
Georgia (5) has to run the table and faces rival Georgia Tech and then Alabama.
Oklahoma (6) travels to West Virginia and then plays in the Big 12 Championship Game. Buckeye fans will also be Mountaineer fans this Saturday.
LSU (7) shouldn’t be a factor with two losses but nothing the Playoff Committee does will surprise me.
Washington State (8) needs a win at Washington (16) and then must defeat Utah in the Pac 12 Championship Game. The Cougars don’t have an easy task.
UCF (9) plays a South Florida team on a four game losing streak and the American Conference Championship Game. Would the Playoff Committee put a non Power 5 conference champion in over Ohio State? Who knows?
With rivalry week here and conference championship games coming up there is still plenty of football to be played. But you can be certain the Buckeyes aren’t concerning themselves with the playoff at the moment as they focus on playing that team up north in “The Game”.
