Ohio State Football: 2 loss SEC team ranked ahead of the Buckeyes
After the second College Football Playoff rankings were released it wasn’t difficult to figure out how the committee views the Ohio State football team.
After an unimpressive win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers the Ohio State football team remains at No. 10 in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings. The Buckeyes are the lowest ranked one loss team in a Power 5 conference.
While the committee isn’t overly impressed with Ohio State, they sure are with the Southeastern Conference. There are 4 teams from the conference ranked in the top 11 and 7 in the top 25.
And apparently there is no such thing as a bad loss if it’s to another SEC team.
The LSU Tigers were dominated 29-0 in Death Valley, supposedly one of the most difficult venues for opposing teams to pull out a win. Apparently since the beatdown was handed to them by Alabama that was acceptable. LSU only fell 4 spots to No. 7
The Kentucky Wildcats dropped to 7-2 after being defeated soundly at home 34-17 by the Georgia Bulldogs but only dropped two spots to No. 11. Georgia’s only loss was by 20 points to LSU so the Bulldogs moved up to No. 5.
Now a look at how conferences the CFP Committee thinks aren’t nearly as strong as the SEC are represented in the rankings.
The Big Ten has 5 ranked teams, the Big 12 and ACC 4 apiece, the Pac 12 has 2 and The American and Mountain West have 1 each. Of course Notre Dame is an Independent.
Here is this week’s top 25.

It looks like it will be a difficult task for the Buckeyes to move up the ranks. They will definitely have to play better the next two weeks than they have lately and hope the Wolverines keep their high ranking until November 24th.
But rather than look too far ahead, Urban Meyer and his players had better be concentrating on preparing for Michigan State. Unfortunately, the Spartans are known for spoiling the Buckeyes’ chances of winning a national title.
