Ohio State Recruiting: Things are beginning to heat up again
Ohio State recruiting hit a wall prior to the beginning of fall camp with the situation surrounding the football program but now things are heating up.
Finally, there is positive news concerning Ohio State recruiting. Urban Meyer landed a running back in his 2019 class and added a wide receiver to the 2020 class this week.
Urban Meyer had been searching for another running back in this year’s class since Sampson James decommitted. Now Marcus Crowley will take his place.
Crowley is 6 ft. 1, 200 pounds and is ranked the 35th best running back in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite. He is from Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Florida where current Buckeyes Shaun Wade and Tyreke Johnson played their high school ball.
It would appear Crowley was an undervalued player by recruiting services but not by coaches. He was previously committed to the University of Miami before flipping to Ohio State.
It would appear Urban Meyer may have found another diamond in the rough.
Check out this video and see if you agree.
Crowley gives coach Meyer 15 recruits in his 2019 class which is ranked No. 12 in the 247Sports Composite.
Here are the players committed to the 2019 class:
- Wide receiver Garrett Wilson
- Center Harry Miller
- Guard Doug Nester
- Safety Jordan Battle
- Outside linebacker Cade Stover
- Safety Ronnie Hickman
- Wide receiver Jameson Williams
- Athlete Steele Chambers
- Quarterback Dwan Mathis
- Offensive tackle Ryan Jacoby
- Defensive end Noah Potter
- Athlete Craig Young
- Running back Marcus Crowley
- Tight end Cormontae Hamilton
- Safety Bryson Shaw
Now for the newest member in the 2020 Ohio State recruiting class.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba is a 6 ft. 1, 188 pound wide receiver from Rockwall, Texas. He is ranked as the No. 59 wide receiver in the country and a top 300 player in the 247Sports Composite.

Smith-Njigba fills a need as coach Meyer will want to add receivers to both the 2019 and 2020 recruiting classes. Parris Campbell, Johnnie Dixon and Terry McLaurin will be moving on after the season and K.J. Hill almost certainly will be as well. And next year Austin Mack and Binjimen Victor will be seniors.
The 2020 class is now ranked No. 2 in the country. Here are the seven recruits committed to the class.
- Offensive tackle Parris Johnson Jr.
- Center Luke Wypler
- Quarterback Jack Miller
- Offensive tackle Jake Wray
- Running back Darvon Hubbard
- Safety Lejond Cavazos
- Jaxon Smith-Njigba
It’s good to see Ohio State recruiting heating up again because things had hit a lull. Expect more commitments coming soon, especially in this year’s class as the Early Signing Period is fast approaching.
