Ohio State Football: I hope the Buckeyes watched these 2 games Saturday
After checking out two college football games Saturday it became obvious how the Ohio State football team must play to win the Big Ten and CFP.
Since the Ohio State football team had Saturday off I hope the players and coaches watched some football, especially the early games I tuned into. If that was the case they should have learned how to turn their season around.
I began by watching the Clemson – Florida State game because there is a chance the Buckeyes and the Tigers could once again meet in the postseason. Before I changed the channel to the other game, what I saw disturbed me.
Clemson was absolutely dominant.
I was impressed by the skill position players led by true freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence, but I think Ohio State matches up in that department. What impressed me more was just how physical the Tigers play.
On offense they don’t try to trick you, just knock you backwards. On defense, the line is a stone wall and the guys behind them fly around and make plays.
Those are things Ohio State has been known for in the past. Players and coaches alike know that style of play still works today if they watched Clemson play Saturday.
The other game of note was the Michigan State – Purdue game. The Boilermakers were on a roll and had just had their way against the Buckeyes, but the Spartans quickly let them know that wasn’t going to happen Saturday.
They played with heart and desire for four quarters, which said a lot for Mark Dantonio’s squad coming off a devastating defeat at the hands of Michigan. Ohio State should come out with that same fire in the belly after the bad loss to Purdue.

Another thing the Buckeyes should learn from that game was that the back seven of the Spartans wasn’t going to make things easy for the Boilermaker playmakers. Rondale Moore, Isaac Zico and Brycen Hopkins got their catches but they earned every one, and those receptions weren’t enough to greatly affect the game.
If the talented players in Ohio State’s back seven will bring the attitude and desire the Michigan State linebackers and defensive backs brought to the field, the pass defense will improve significantly.
It’s obvious to me that in order for the Buckeyes to run the table and win the Big Ten they will have to play with the heart and desire Michigan State did Saturday. If they want to seriously compete for the national title they will have to play as physical as the Clemson Tigers.
But then the Ohio State coaches and players are fully aware of that if they checked out the two games I did Saturday.
