The Ohio State football team certainly didn’t look like a top 10 football team in the loss to Purdue and is now ranked No. 11 in this week’s AP Poll.

There was quite a battle on the Ohio State football team last spring with Dwayne Haskins and Joe Burrow going toe-to-toe for the starting quarterback position. Dwayne Haskins won that battle but so far Burrow is winning the war.

The Buckeyes slipped to No. 11 after the bad loss to the Purdue Boilermakers Saturday and Burrow has led the LSU Tigers to a No. 4 ranking. Haskins definitely has put up far bigger numbers this season but Burrow has his offense running efficiently enough to compliment the Tigers’ outstanding defense.

The SEC once again leads the way in this week’s AP Poll with six ranked teams. The Bit Ten and the PAC 12 are tied for second with five teams apiece, followed by the Big 12 (three), the ACC and the American (two) and the Sun Belt (one).

Here is the top 25 in this week’s AP Poll.

  • 1.  Alabama

More from Ohio State Football

The College Football Playoff rankings will be coming out soon. If they are similar to the AP Poll, and I think they may be, there is a good chance three of the four playoff spots are close to being set.

With four SEC teams in the hunt, two from each division, the conference will almost certainly have at least one team in the final four. Also, it appears that Clemson and Notre Dame have clear paths from here on in.

I hate to say this but Michigan is sitting in great position to be the fourth team included. If the Wolverines take care of business the next three games and then pull out a win in “The Game”, they will be favorites heading into the Big Ten Championship Game.

Winning the Big Ten and finishing 12-1, with the only loss being to Notre Dame the first game of the season, puts Michigan in the playoff.

Strange things often occur during the stretch drive though and there could be upsets to highly ranked teams. If that happens, the Big 12 champion could make it into the playoff, a team like Ohio State could hot and be included or even a second SEC team once again.

Next. Is it time to panic in Columbus?. dark

However things play out, college football is sure to be interesting from this point forward.
