2nd Quarter:

Offense:

The red zone woes continued for the Buckeyes in the second quarter. After a few penalties by Purdue and a nice kick return by Johnnie Dixon, the Buckeye’s had their best shot so far of putting six points on the board.

Instead they settled for a field goal to make the game 7-3 in favor of Purdue.

It didn’t get much better as the quarter went on. In fact, it got worse as the Buckeyes couldn’t move the ball and the offensive line wasn’t giving Dwayne Haskins much time to throw the ball.

The Buckeyes would get into the red zone again this quarter, putting together a nice drive only to be stopped in the red zone once again and to make things worse, missed the field goal.

Grade: D

Defense:

The defense only gave up seven points in this quarter again, but they gave up more gash plays than the previous quarter and that worried me going into the second half.

The defensive front was able to get a decent push on the front for the Boilermakers, a lot of times forcing bad throws from Purdue quarterback, David Blough.

Much like the first quarter, Purdue was able to put together another touchdown drive at the end of the quarter, thanks to a successful fake field goal from Purdue.

Malik Harrison definitely made a difference in this game coming back from injury, but the Buckeyes will need more from him to help the Buckeyes come back from a 14-3 deficit in the second half.

Grade: C+

Special Teams:

After an outstanding first half on special teams for the Buckeyes, Urban Meyer’s unit came back down to earth in this quarter, missing a field goal and then surrendering a first down on a fake field goal that led to Purdue’s second touchdown of the game.

That is a ten point swing given going in Purdue’s favor right before the half.

Grade: D-
