There is no doubt Alabama has two outstanding quarterbacks but could the duo on the Ohio State football team be even better?

With Tua Tagovailoa starting and Jalen Hurts as the backup most think Alabama has the two best quarterbacks on any team in college football. But could the QB duo on the Ohio State football team be playing even better than those two outstanding players?

It’s understandable most everyone’s attention has been on the Alabama quarterback situation. There was a highly publicized battle for the starting spot between Tagovailoa and Hurts at the beginning of the season.

Also, Hurts led Alabama to the National Championship Game last season and Tagovailoa came on in the second half to lead the Crimson Tide to a come from behind win. And now Tagovailoa is the frontrunner to win the Heisman Trophy.

The first year starter Haskins is also in the mix for the Heisman so he is certainly garnering plenty of attention. However, Martell was redshirted last year so what he has accomplished so far this season hasn’t been noticed much outside of Buckeye Nation.

Since the two QB tandems have six games under their belts, I wanted to see how they compare statistically. Check out the stats and see which duo you think has performed better so far this season.

More from Ohio State Football

First let’s look at the Alabama quarterbacks:

  • Tua Tagovailoa:  76-101 passing (75.2 percent) for 1,495 yards 18 touchdowns, 0 interceptions. 23 carries for 122 yards and 2 touchdowns.
  • Jalen Hurts:  30-42 passing (71.4 percent) for 451 touchdowns, 5 touchdowns and 1 interception. 23 carries for 97 yards.
  • Total:  106-143 passing (74.1 percent) for 1,946 yards, 23 touchdowns and 1 interception. 46 carries for 219 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Now for the Ohio State duo:

  • Dwayne Haskins:  142-198 passing (71.7 percent) for 1,919 yards, 25 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. 21 carries for 43 yards and 1 touchdown.
  • Tate Martell:  23-28 passing (82.1 percent) for 269 yards, 1 touchdown and 0 interceptions. 18 carries for 121 yards and 2 touchdowns.
  • Total:  165-226 passing (73 percent) for 2,188 yards, 26 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. 39 carries for 164 yards and 3 touchdowns.

I think these are the two best QB duos in the country. All four players performed at a high level the first half of the season and their teams are contenders for the national championship.
