It’s always interesting to look at the preseason AP Poll to see where the Ohio State football team is ranked and the number of SEC teams that are.
I always look forward to the preseason AP Poll being released to find out where the voters have the Ohio State football team ranked and how well the Big Ten is represented. I also want to see which six or seven Southeastern Conference teams are ranked in AP Poll. Imagine how shocked I was seeing there were only five listed.
I thought it was a requirement at least a half-dozen SEC teams had to be included in the top 25.
It’s good to see Mississippi State ranked No. 18. It wouldn’t seem right if at least one of the two schools in Mississippi wasn’t ranked.
This year the Big Ten matched the SEC with five ranked teams. The ACC, Big 12 and Pac 12 each have four teams in the top 25. There is a team included from each the Mountain West Conference and the American Athletic Conference. Notre Dame is the lone independent.

Quick takes from the AP Poll:
The voters believe the Big Ten and SEC are strong at the top,. Each conference has three teams ranked in the top ten and five teams from the Big Ten are among the first 15.
Like most, the AP voters expect Alabama, Clemson and Georgia to be leading contenders to make the College Football Playoff.
They also have Wisconsin being the top team in the Big Ten. It’s hard to argue with that until the Urban Meyer situation is settled.
The voters also think every conference has at least one contender to make the CFP.
I know it’s just a preseason poll but you have to admit it is fun to see where teams are ranked, whether you agree with the AP voters or not. And it means the football season is right around the corner.
