The timeline for the investigation to determine whether or not Urban Meter will be retained as head coach of the Ohio State football team may be extended.

The committee formed by the Ohio State University to gather information on the situation that caused Urban Meyer to be put on administrative leave was supposed to conclude the investigation on Sunday. Now it appears the timeline may be extended so we may have to wait a few more days to find out if Urban will be retained as head coach of the Ohio State football team.

Here is what Ohio State president Michael Drake said in an interview on WOSU as reported in an article by Dan Murphy of ESPN.

"“There is a great deal of interest in this investigation,” Drake told the public radio interviewer. “We wanted to make sure we had really good information, and there is time pressure. We wanted to have that information as quickly as possible. …The most important thing is to get good information so we can make the right decisions going forward.”"

Buckeye fans are extremely anxious to find out if coach Meyer stays or is let go. However, they should appreciate the fact the committee wants to gather all the info possible before coming to a conclusion. Even if affects the Ohio State football program this year and in the future.

And it very well could.

More from Ohio State Football

The Buckeyes are only 15 days away from taking the field against Oregon State. Even though Ohio State has a veteran coaching staff, don’t you think 18-22 year old players want to know who will be leading the team?

And it has already affected recruiting somewhat with coach Meyer being placed on administrative leave. While none of the 2019-20 commits have changed their minds so far, it has been reported a couple of potential recruits pushed back their commitment dates.

Uncertainty in a football program is never a good thing .

However, a man’s career is at stake. His reputation is as well and that of the University. It’s better to get things right than to come to a conclusion without gathering all the facts.

If the committee investigating the matter will continue to dig for every piece of info, there is a good chance the decision to keep Urban as head coach, or not, will be the correct one. And the Ohio State University will have taken the high road, not being swayed by Buckeye fans or haters, just letting the facts determine the outcome..
