Ohio State Football: Good bet for this Buckeye to win the Heisman Trophy?
There are three Ohio State football players Vegas has placed odds on to win the Heisman Trophy. Could this long shot be a good bet?
Ohio State football players you can wager on to win the Heisman Trophy are Nick Bosa, J.K. Dobbins and Dwayne Haskins. Would you place a bet on any of the three to win the prestigious award?
I will use betting lines from Vegas as reported in a recent article by our own Chris Bruns and analyze each player’s situation. I will get to the offensive players later but for now I want to focus on the defensive end who is a long shot to win the Heisman..
Nick Bosa: A $100 bet to win $10,000.
How could the reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year be such a long shot? Especially when he is thought by many to be one of the best players in the country.
The primary reason is that no defensive player has won the Heisman since Charles Woodson in 1997.

Another reason could be that opposing teams will do everything in their power to slow Bosa down this season. If they are successful, he won’t produce the big stats needed to be in contention for the Heisman. I’m not so sure that will happen.
The Ohio State defensive line is loaded with guys like Dre’Mont Jones and Chase Young who can get after the quarterback. I expect the young athletic group of linebackers are capable of doing so as well.
I understand opposing offensive coordinators will try to get a second hat on Bosa as much as possible but I’m not sure how often they will be able to do so.
And good luck blocking the “Little Bear” with one guy.
Last year as a sophomore Bosa was the best player on a defensive end unit that included three players who will be playing on Sundays this fall. Just how good will he be this season?
If Bosa puts up the kind of numbers I think he can as a full-time starter, he will at least be in consideration for the Heisman at the end of the season.

Who knows, Bosa could be the guy to stop the streak of offensive players winning the Heisman Trophy. If you have a 100 dollar bill you’re not overly attached to, you may want to place it on a bet the “Little Bear” will hoist the trophy in December.
