Ohio State Football: More good news at QB for the Buckeyes
More good news for the Buckeyes at the quarterback position as a graduate transfer will be joining the Ohio State football team.
It has been reported that former West Virginia quarterback Chris Chugunov will join the Ohio State football team. Chugunov is a graduate transfer who has two years of eligibility remaining.
Last season he played five games for the Mountaineers and completed 43 of 90 passes for 3 touchdowns and two interceptions.
Ohio State has plenty of talented players at the quarterback position but none have yet to start a game in college. Chugunov started the final two games last season for the Mountaineer’s after starting quarterback Will Grier suffered an injury.
Adding a player with experience to the QB room will certainly be a plus for the Buckeyes, even if it doesn’t happen this season.
It has been reported an Ohio State spokesman said there are no scholarships available at the moment, so it would appear Chugunov will be enrolling next year. If that is the case, it’s not a bad thing.
In fact, that could be the best case scenario.
By the end of the 2018 season Dwayne Haskins obviously will have plenty of experience behind center. And Tate Martell should see plenty of playing time this year as well.

However, if Haskins has the kind of season many expect him to he could move on to the NFL. Think pro teams won’t be drooling over this big-armed QB? If Haskins were to leave, Martell would be the only QB with significant experience.
It’s not likely Matthew Baldwin or Kory Curtis will see the field often this season. And if they do, it will only be in garbage time at the end of the game.
The coaching staff may want to take it easy on Baldwin as he is recovering from a knee injury. Curtis is a walk-on who recently lost his black stripes so he may see some action, but probably not much.
So you can see having Chugunov coming in next season could be a good situation for the Buckeyes. And it won’t hurt that Dwan Mathis will be joining the Ohio State football team also.
Things are looking up at the quarterback position, for this year and in the future.
