Urban Meyer’s pay raise means more championships for Ohio State
Urban Meyer has had tremendous success since taking over the Ohio State football program but his salary increase raises expectations even higher.
Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer received a nice pay raise this week. He deserves it and has earned every dollar that the university pays him. Buckeye Nation is lucky to have coach Meyer leading the program.
Does the raise in salary increase expectations? On a certain level it absolutely does even though Ohio State has always been an elite program in the hunt for Big Ten and national titles every season.
In six seasons, Urban Meyer has one national title and two conference titles to his credit. Given the level of talent Meyer brings into the program, there should be more and he needs to deliver better results.
He also trails Nick Saban 6-3 in national titles and that is unacceptable. On the other hand, the value of the program has never been higher.
Meyer’s intensity and commitment to building an elite program has raised the bar significantly, higher than its been in a long time.
This is why 2018 is a crucial season for Meyer. It feels like a second national title or bust type of season.

Will this team achieve it? The pieces are in place to make it happen.
On offense, a stout line coupled with a mature receiving corp and backfield should keep the unit rolling. Whoever wins the quarterback competition has an abundance of talent to have a special season.
On defense, Nick Bosa and Chase Young will wreak havoc up front and the back-end is loaded with talent. The only question is whether or not the linebackers will rise up this season.
Tuf Borland’s injury definitely impacts the unit, but there is enough depth to overcome the loss.
If Urban Meyer can pull off a second national championship this season, he will surpass Woody Hayes as the greatest coach in program history. That may seem absurd given Hayes’ legacy, but winning two titles in this era are more arduous.
