Is not being able to defeat Ohio State and Urban Meyer finally wearing on Jim Harbaugh?

It’s difficult to believe there could be any turmoil for the team up north with Jim Harbaugh at the helm but apparently there is. James Yoder of Chat Sports reported that former Florida head coach Jim McElwain may be taking over the offensive coordinator position for Michigan and other coaches may be assuming different roles.

Talk about things going south for the Wolverines. If McElwain is the guy coach Harbaugh is counting on to jumpstart the Michigan offense he could be in trouble.

Most of the problems the Wolverines have had the last three years has stemmed from inconsistency on offense, especially in the passing game. That could change with hiring McElwain because his Gators have been consistently bad offensively during that period of time, and throwing the football was a serious problem.

Check out the offensive stats and rankings for Florida the last three years if you don’t believe me.

Total offense  YPG     Passing YPG

2015:  334.9  (107)     206.9   (80)

2016:   344.0  (109)     215.8   (79)

2017:   335.9  (110)     179.0  (101)

Now if Mr. Yoder is correct in his assumptions there will be other changes on the offensive staff. I wonder how the coaches will react to those changes if the offensive guru McElwain does take over the role of coordinator.

Tim Drevno will be removed from his OC duties and become an Associate Head Coach, whatever that is, and work with the offensive line. Passing Game Coordinator Pep Hamilton won’t be coaching the wide receivers as that will be coach McElwain’s responsibility. He will only coach the quarterbacks.

I don’t think Michigan fans should worry about the situation though, coach Harbaugh hired an ‘Analyst’ some time ago who will certainly get things straightened out if they go awry. Just remember how potent the Ohio State offense was when Ed Warinner was running the show. Oh, I forgot, those were the years before and after he was the Buckeye OC.

Next: Another Buckeye returning, and right man for the job

It does seem as though things have become a bit frantic in the state up north. Maybe coach Harbaugh is frustrated from not being able to defeat Urban Meyer on the playing field or on the recruiting trail. I think that’s the case because it seems as though he’s reaching a little bit at this point doesn’t it?
