Will one of these two offensive tackles choose to play for Ohio State?

There is no secret Urban Meyer wants to add another offensive tackle to the Ohio State recruiting class. He has his sights set on two of the best in the country and either would be an outstanding addition to the class.

First let’s take a look at the No. 1 ranked tackle in the country..

Nicholas Petit-Frere  6-6, 272 pounds  (Tampa, FL)

Petit-Frere is a five-star recruit, ranked the top offensive tackle in the country and the No. 7 player overall. If he chooses to play for the Buckeyes it would take some of the sting out of coach Meyer missing on in-state tackle Jackson Carman who is ranked the 2nd best at the position.

I  can’t make up my mind if Petit-Frere will join the Ohio State class or not. Many have him staying down south, leaning towards playing for the University of Florida. However, the Crystal Ball predictions are 85 percent in favor of the Buckeyes.

The good news is that he made a recent visit to Columbus which is always a good thing late in the recruiting cycle. But one thing that concerns me is that Greg Schiano is the lead recruiter with Petit-Frere.

Would reports of him leaving to become the defensive coordinator of the New England Patriots affect Petit-Frere’s decision, even though Schiano won’t be coaching him at Ohio State anyway? Sometimes the relationships developed with coaches are everything to recruits.

Rasheed Walker  6-6, 290 pounds  (Waldorf,MD)

Walker is ranked the 6th best offensive tackle and No. 65 player overall.

From everything I have heard or read this Walker will choose to play for either Ohio State or Penn State, even though Virginia Tech is supposedly in the mix. The Crystal Ball predictions are heavily in favor of the Nittany Lions.

Urban Meyer made a strong push for Walker but it may have come too late. Many think the relationship the tackle has developed with James Franklin may be too strong to overcome.

Having said that, the Buckeyes are thin at tackle and the lure of possibly playing early may sway Walker to come to Columbus. And with Urban, I don’t count him out until the ink is dry on the letter of intent.
