Another outstanding player joins the Ohio State recruiting class.

Urban Meyer received a nice present today when the 4th ranked defensive tackle and the No. 86 recruit in the country chose to play his college football at Ohio State. His name is Tyler Friday and he was one of the top remaining targets for coach Meyer in his already outstanding 2018 recruiting class.

Friday is listed at 6-3 263 pounds and is expected to play defensive end for the Buckeyes. With Tyquan Lewis, Jalyn Holmes and Sam Hubbard moving on to the NFL, it was important to have at least one more end in this year’s class.

Friday was the guy Urban Meyer and defensive line coach Larry Johnson wanted to fill that spot.

Check out the video and you will see why Friday was so coveted.

More from Scarlet and Game

With Friday committing and Tyreke Smith already on board, coach Johnson now has two 6-3 defensive ends in the 260 pound range in the ‘18 recruiting class. Each are top 100 players who appear to already have the size and skill set to make the DE rotation next season.

These two players, in addition to what may be the most talented group of tackles of any recruiting class in the country, makes for a terrific group of defensive linemen this year. Don’t you think Larry Johnson might be the happiest coach in America at the moment?

I shouldn’t leave Alex Williams out of the mix but it’s not certain what position the athletic 6-7, 250 pounder will play. Even though he is listed as a defensive end, Williams may be moved to tight end, or stay on the defensive side of the ball and play either end or tackle.

Next: Grading the defensive coaches

Friday may not be the last DE to join the 2018 class as it has been reported that coach Meyer could be looking to bring one more in. Now that’s just being greedy.
