The best defensive back in the Buckeyes 2018 recruiting class, Tyreke Johnson brings many things to Ohio State. The biggest of this is versatility.

Johnson’s main position is safety but he also plays cornerback, and can be a special teams contributor. Johnson also has all the skill to contribute from day one.

Johnson is the No. 5 ranked safety in the 2018 class according to the 247Sports Composite.

Johnson has the best odds out of any of the players on this list to consistently play as a freshman. That’s not because he’s outstandingly better than any of these other players, but rather because Erick Smith and Damon Webb are both Seniors. That allows a backup spot at one of the two safety spots to be taken by Johnson.

If Johnson is able to win that job, he will have a lot of chances to play because Ohio State likes to rotate defensive backs. Expect Johnson to contribute immediately and provide some added depth to the Buckeyes back third.
