Interesting day for Urban Meyer and his 2018 Ohio State recruiting class.

On the first day of the early signing period it appears most of the players committed to the Ohio State recruiting class are on board. However, quarterback Emory Jones flipped and has signed with the University of Florida.

Also, top Ohio State target offensive tackle Jackson Carman has committed to play for the Clemson Tigers.

It had been speculated for some time Jones would sign somewhere else, it was just a matter of where. With Matthew Baldwin signing today, Urban Meyer still has an outstanding quarterback in his class.

Carman committing to Clemson though is certainly a blow. He is an in-state recruit and ranked as the top offensive tackle in the nation.

It has been reported that most of the commits have signed but I haven’t been able to confirm that yet. The players listed at 247Sports as having signed are as follows:

  • DT Taron Vincent
  • ILB Taradja Mitchell
  • WR Kamryn Babb
  • WR Cameron Brown
  • QB Matthew Baldwin

More from Scarlet and Game

There will plenty more recruiting info today and I will have the full list later.

I just found out Brown signed since I began writing. He had previously been committed to play for Nebraska. He is an outstanding get for Urban Meyer and I’ll have more about the WR in another article.

I was under the weather yesterday so I didn’t report about the newest commit to the class, Alex Williams. He is a 6-7, 250 pound defensive end from Pickerington North High School. He is a versatile, athletic player capable of playing other positions of need as well.

Next: Negative recruiting hurting the Buckeyes?

Stay tuned as I’m sure there will be more interesting things occur during the early signing period. I don’t know if having two signing periods will prove to be a good thing or not, but I think it makes things twice as fun.
