Jim Harbaugh gets his man, but will it be enough to defeat Ohio State?

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh hustled right down to Oxford, Mississippi looking for players when “Ole Miss” was hit with NCAA sanctions. He was looking for players who may be able to help him catch up to Urban Meyer and Ohio State. Today he reeled in the Rebel quarterback he was after as Shea Patterson has decided to leave the south and play for TTUN.

I want to credit Sam Webb of 247Sports.com for reporting Patterson’s intention to transfer to Michigan.

Patterson took to Twitter today to let everyone know he will soon becoming a Wolverine. Should that be a concern for the Buckeyes? I think so.

Patterson was the top rated quarterback in the 2016 recruiting class. He has also performed well in limited duty at “Ole Miss”. In three games as a freshman, and seven this season before he was injured, he completed 60 percent of his passes for 3,139 yards. 23 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Not only is Patterson an outstanding talent, he could definitely fill a need for Michigan. Inconsistent play at quarterback has been what has held the Wolverine offense back the last couple of years.

Patterson may also be able to bring along some of his friends from the University of Mississippi to that state up north. The one I’m most interested in is wide receiver Van Jefferson who I wrote about in a previous article. There is no doubt wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones will be a star for Michigan, and teaming with a second receiver who catches 45 passes a season could speed up his progress.

It has still yet to be determined if Patterson and other Mississippi transfers will have to sit out a year or be granted a waiver to play next season. In any event, the Rebel quarterback committing to play for the Wolverines was a terrific get for Jim Harbaugh.

If Patterson is eligible to play in 2018, will Michigan finally have a chance to defeat Ohio State? It’s hard to say, but it would definitely add even more spice to “The Game”.
