Ohio State vs. Oklahoma showdown.

As College Game Day rolled into Columbus, the stage had already been set. Round two is ready to get under way. This could be a telling week for either Ohio State or Oklahoma, and may be the best game of the day.

Baker Mayfield is coming off one of the best performances of any quarterback who stepped on the grid iron last week. The main question that I had Sunday morning was how credible is the UTEP Minor defense he tore up.

Bow Mayfield will face ab Ohio State defensive line considered my many to be the best in the nation, but the secondary is still a question mark. So just how well will Mayfield perform versus the Buckeyes?

When J.T Barrett burst on the scene a few years ago, it had been a while since the Buckeye faithful had seen a quarterback like him. Plagued by injury, we haven’t seen the same Barrett since then.

The Buckeye offense rattled off 36 second half points against Indiana. They’ll be looking for that at the beginning of the game against the Sooners.

More from Scarlet and Game

Buckeye defenders gave up 420 yards of passing offense per ESPN to a sub par Indiana offensive unit. On the ground, the Buckeye front seven was about as stingy as it gets only giving up 17 yards rushing to the Hoosiers.

Can the Buckeyes contain Baker Mayfield for 60 minutes is the question of this week two showdown. In my eyes, if Coach Schiano and the Buckeye defense can force Mayfield into 3rd and long situations, they will be successful.

Urban Meyer and the Buckeyes are sure to understand the magnitude of this game. You hate to think during week two that a team is in a make or break situation for the rest of your season. But it could be the case with difficult conference games coming up later in the schedule.

If the Buckeyes win this game, it strengthens their resume for the College Football Playoff. If they lose, it’s possible they may not even be in the playoff discussion at the end of the season.
