The outstanding 2018 Ohio State recruiting class just got even better.

Jeremy Ruckert announced today he has decided to play his college football for the Buckeyes. The hits just keep on coming for Urban Meyer and his 2018 Ohio State recruiting class.

Ruckert is listed at 6 ft. 5.5 in., 238 pounds. He is ranked as the No. 1 tight end and the 52nd player overall in the country according to the 247Sports Composite.

His recruiting stock has continued to during the camp season. From everything I have read or heard, he was one of the most impressive recruits at ‘The Opening’.

In last night’s article I put in a video of Ruckert’s junior highlights, but here is one that shows how impressive he can be without the pads on.

More from Scarlet and Game

Urban Meyer has worked as hard to obtain Ruckert’s commitment as probably any player in  the 2018 Ohio State recruiting class. Why would he work so hard going after a pass catching tight end when the Buckeye aerial attack hasn’t really featured the position as of late?

And knowing that, why did Ruckert choose Ohio State? The answer to each question could be that Kevin Wilson is now the offensive coordinator and tight ends coach.

When coach Wilson held both those positions at Oklahoma, tight end Jermaine Gresham caught 103 passes for 1,468 and 25 touchdowns in a two-year span for the Sooners. His junior season Gresham had 66 receptions for 950 yards and 14 touchdowns.

In 2008, Gresham was named first team All-American, and then chosen in the first round of the NFL draft following his outstanding junior season. Don’t you think coach Wilson made Jeremy Ruckert aware of those facts?

Anyway, Ruckert is another great addition to an outstanding recruiting class which now numbers 15 players. He is also the first of the pass catching trio I mentioned in my last article to commit to the Buckeyes.
