Quite a miss on a large Ohio State recruiting class.

Now that JaQuan Lyle is no longer a member of the Ohio State basketball team, there is no player left from the 2015 recruiting class. Let’s take a quick look at that forgettable “lost class”.

Remember, it was the No. 5 class in 2015 with four of the top 100 players in the country according to the 247Sports Composite. There was plenty of optimism in Buckeye Nation with that class coming in.

It didn’t take long for fans to become skeptical though. Early preseason losses to teams that shouldn’t have been in the game made people begin to worry.

About the time Buckeye fans were getting ready to open their Christmas presents, the first shoe was about to drop. Guard Austin Grandstaff transferred from Ohio State. I don’t know if he saw what was coming down the pike, but maybe we all should have.

More from Scarlet and Game

The Buckeyes had a disappointing season and failed to make the NCAA tournament for the first time in eight years. They won 21 games to keep Thad Matta’s streak of winning 20 games or more in a season in tact, but got knocked out in the second round of the NIT.

After the season, Daniel Giddens, A.J. Harris and Mickey Mitchell all transferred from Ohio State. That left JaQuan Lyle as the only remaining player from the 2015 class.

Last year with Lyle leading the show, the Buckeyes failed to win 20 games. They not only were left out of the NCAA Tournament, they even failed to make the NIT.

Now, Ohio State has said that Lyle dropped out of school on April 11. Some think his recent incident with the law was the final straw for coach Matta, In any event, Lyle’s career as a Buckeye is through. That means the 2015 recruiting class is finished as well.

Some might describe that 2015 class with a word that begins with L and ends with an R. I’ll just be nice and call it the “lost recruiting class”.
