The hits just keep on coming for Ohio State players.

A former Ohio State football player has signed his first NFL contract, Vegas has odds on him winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year and he was a top 10 Fantasy pick by at least one site. I would say Curtis Samuel had a pretty good day.

First about the contract. According to Over The Cap, Samuel signed a four-year deal worth $6,452,860. 1.6 million a year is a pretty good starting salary after only three years of college isn’t it?

Samuel was also listed among NFL players with a betting chance of winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award according to Vegas. Land Of 10 listed those players and their odds provided by Bovada if you want to check them out..

Samuel was tied for the 12th best odds at 20-1. That’s a far cry from Leonard Fournette, the favorite at 7-2 and Samuel’s new teammate Christian McCaffrey whose odds are 5-1.

So just what chance does the former Ohio State H-back have of winning the award? Let’s look at two situations and see if you think it could happen.

First, Percy Harvin is the player Samuel has often been compared to because of their effectiveness both rushing and receiving. Harvin was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2009.

And what if the Carolina Panthers use Samuel in a similar fashion as Urban Meyer did last season. If he gained 1,636 yards from scrimmage during a 16 game NFL season like he did in 13 games for Ohio State, that may be enough to at least be in the conversation. It would be less than Ezekiel Elliott’s rushing and receiving total last season when he was the runner-up for the award, but it would be more yards from scrimmage than any non quarterback winner since Clinton Portis in 2002.

Athlon Sports put out a Top 10 list of rookies to pick for your Fantasy Football team and Samuel was listed at No. 10. I am ignorant when it comes to all things Fantasy sports, but it still must be a good thing that they are keeping their eye on his situation.

Curtis Samuel was the 40th pick in the NFL draft which was higher than some “experts” had him being chosen. Now, Vegas and Fantasy Football people are paying attention to him, and he has become a millionaire. I would say things are looking up for the young man from Ohio State.
