Ohio State Football: No April Fools’ Joke Here

I’m through with April Fools’ Jokes, at least for this year.

I thought about doing another April Fools’ article again this year but decided against it. After last year’s article, Urban Meyer Leaving And Going To Cincinnati, I wasn’t going there again this year.

Last year the situation was ideal for an April Fools’ article. Rumors were flying around about coach Meyer taking an NFL coaching job. Urban said in the past that the only teams he would consider coaching were Cincinnati and Cleveland, and it looked like the Bengals job may be up for grabs.

The article got a ton of pageviews and I think most people enjoyed it, except for those who didn’t finish the article and gave me grief. I’m glad I wrote the piece, but if I pulled another April Fools’ joke on readers, I don’t know if anybody would take any of my articles written on April 1st seriously ever again?.

My credibility would take a hit, at least on that day. Then what if something out of the ordinary happened, and one of my titles read like this:

  • Jim Harbaugh Pushes for Tougher Recruiting Guidlines, No Sleepovers
  • “A Certain Network” said Ohio State would Finish Above 3rd place in SEC West
  • Only 5 Teams From SEC in Preseason Poll
  • Bret Bielema Says Big Ten Better Than SEC, Takes Vow of Silence for Season
  • _____ to Challenge Alabama in SEC West Division
  • 4 Star recruit commits to Minnesota.

I think readers may just move on if I put a title like one of those above an article, even if it were true. They would think it was just another April Fools’ article.

So no tricks this year, but I really can’t promise anything going forward. After all, I like having fun and annoying others, just ask my wife.
