Top 10 speeds turned in by Ohio State players this week.

The players in the 2017 recruiting class who enrolled early have impressed the coaches so far in spring practice. I’m sure one of the reasons the staff is impressed is because some of them are really fast.

Urban Meyer puts the radar gun on Ohio State players once a week instead of having them timed in the 40 yard dash. This week 5 of the top 10 fastest speeds were from players in the 2017 class.

Not every player participated, and evidently Denzel Ward was held out of the competion to make sure someone else won this week. Thanks to 247 Sports, we have the info here so you can see who the fastest Buckeyes were this week. Here are their top MPH speeds:

Isaiah Pryor                21.4

Jeffrey Okudah          21.4

Parris Campbell         21.1

Demario McCall         20.9

Damon Arnette          20.8

Kendall Sheffield      20.7

Binjimen Victor           20.6

Shaun Wade                20.5

Terry McLaurin            20.4

Brendon White           20.3

Man, these guys run faster than people drive around here on a Sunday afternoon while gawking at what the local farmers have done in the last week.

More from Scarlet and Game

It’s great to see four defensive backs on this list, Isaiah Pryor, Jeffrey Okudah, Kendall Sheffield and Shaun Wade. Losing three DBs to the NFL certainly left a void to fill, and first year guys will have to help fill it.

Often young players will struggle in the beginning while adjusting to covering more experienced wide receivers. Makeup speed after blowing a coverage, which will happen from time to time, is extremely important. It appears the young defensive players have plenty of that.

What do you think of sophomore wide receiver Binjimen Victor and freshman Brendon White? Those are two big guys who can run.

Victor is 6’4, 195 pounds and White is 6’2, 210. They may be able to go over the top of defensive backs to get the ball or just run by them on a deep route.

It’s good to know the coaching staff has been impressed with how the early enrollees have performed in their drills so far this spring. It’s even more encouraging to know some of them can flat-out fly.
