Numbers don’t lie, Ohio State is the top football/basketball university.

The AP came out with their list of All-Time Top 100 basketball programs and Ohio State was ranked No. 12. Couple that with the Buckeyes being ranked as the top football program in their All-Time Top 100 football list, and that makes Ohio State the No. 1 football/basketball university of all time doesn’t it?

Now I’m not smart enough to come up with some complicated formula to determine where each school should be ranked, nor do I have to be. The AP has done the work for me and I can add 2 plus 2, or in this case 12 plus 1 which equals 13, if my calculator is working properly.

That’s Ohio State’s score and no other school has a lower one. That means the Buckeyes are No. 1 right?

Using that formula, I made a list of the top football/basketball universities. I only have a top 7 because that’s the number of teams that made the AP Top 25 list in each sport. Sorry, if you can’t make the top 25 I’m not wasting my time on you.

More from Scarlet and Game

There is a three-way tie for second place as each team had a score of 21. Here is the list with the school’s score and the sport each had their highest ranking in.

  • Notre Dame       21    Football (3)
  • UCLA                    21    Basketball (4)
  • Michigan             21    Football (7)
  • Oklahoma           22    Football (2)
  • Michigan State  32    Basketball (13)
  • Iowa                     48     Basketball (23)

Well, there’s my list of the top football/basketball schools. Someone will probably argue that a school has a lower score than Iowa but I don’t care. They didn’t make the top 25 in both AP lists so they are a one sport school and don’t qualify.
