Ohio State Recruiting: Key Visits and Offers Over the Weekend
Spring is here and so are potential Ohio State recruits.
It was a big recruiting weekend for Ohio State with a ton of high school players on campus. A quarterback and a defensive end went home with offers to play for the Buckeyes.
One of the more important visits was by Houston Griffith from one of Urban Meyer’s favorite high schools, IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Griffith is the No. 7 cornerback in the 2018 class and ranked as the 46th best player according to the 247Sports Composite.
Griffith had this to say about his visit, as reported by Charles Doss of Land Grant Holy Land.
"“The visit was great. I loved how competitive the practice was. I also enjoyed talking to coaches after practice. I talked to Coach Day. They said they really like me and if I do good at one of their camps they will offer. To get an offer would mean a lot to me. It’s a dream school.”"
The cornerback is an Ohio State lean so it was good to see he had a great time.
There are comments by other recruits regarding their Ohio State visits in the article by Doss if you want to check them out.
Andrew Lind of Eleven Warriors listed several other top recruits that were to be on campus over the weekend and four in particular caught my attention. Three in-state recruits WR L’Christian Smith, LB Christopher Oats and DE Tyreke Smith. Also visiting was the No. 2 ranked DT in the recruiting class Tyler Friday from Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey.

L’Christian Smith is said to favor playing for the University of Kentucky because he would be allowed to try out for the basketball team as a walk on. The kid is an unbelievable talent and I hope his visit convinced him to stay home and play for the Buckeyes. The other two in-state players are strong Ohio State leans and I can’t figure out why they aren’t already a part of the ’18 class.
I hope Friday came away with a good impression of Ohio State. There have been too many highly ranked defensive tackles who have got away from Urban Meyer the last couple of years.
Scholarship offers went out to QB Michael Johnson Jr. and DE John Waggoner. Johnson is the top ranked dual threat quarterback in the nation and Waggoner is the No. 15 defensive end.
Clips I have seen of the two are quite impressive to say the least. Johnson is a freakish athlete with a ton of potential. Waggoner reminded me of a young Sam Hubbard with his quickness and tenacity.

Another big recruiting weekend for Ohio State in the books. The visits to the campus next weekend could be “huge”.
