Three Ohio State defensive backs drafted this high?

In Mel Kiper’s Mock Draft 3.0-Round 1 picks, he has three Ohio State players going in the first round. Marshon Lattimore is projected to be the 5th pick going to the Tennessee Titans, Malik Hooker No. 7 to the Los Angeles Chargers and Gareon Conley No. 14 to the Philadelphia Eagles according to 247 Sports.

Most mock drafts I’ve seen lately have Lattimore and Hooker being chosen right around where Kiper has them on his list. While many mock drafts have Conley as a first round pick, No. 14 is the highest I have seen him being chosen.

Just think if Kiper is correct, that would be three Ohio State defensive backs being drafted with the first 15 picks. Has any team ever had three defensive backs chosen that high in one draft before?

The thought of having two cornerbacks go in the top 15 is amazing in itself. Especially when both players left school with eligibility remaining, and one of them started for the first time last season.

More from Scarlet and Game

It would mean four Ohio State defensive backs going in the top 15 the last two years. Also, it would be six top 15 players, and eight players in the top 20 the last two drafts for the Buckeyes.

There is also a good possibility that three Buckeyes will be drafted in the second round. I think Raekwon McMillan and Curtis Samuel are a lock, and Pat Elflein will be a late second or early third round pick.

If that were to happen, it would be 13 Buckeyes chosen in the first two rounds the last two drafts. It will be a total of 18  draft picks overall, with Noah Brown, Dontre Wilson and Corey Smith all having a chance of being chosen late in the draft.

However it plays out, the Buckeyes will be featured prominently again in this year’s draft. And that will mean more ammunition for Urban Meyer on the recruiting trail.
