One recruit from Georgia already in the 2018 Ohio State class and possibly more on the way soon?

Urban Meyer has put a lot of emphasis on recruiting Georgia as head coach of Ohio State. He has picked up outstanding players from the state such as Vonn Bell in 2013 and Raekwon McMillan the following year.

However, Urban’s last recruit from Georgia was defensive back Joshua Norwood in the 2015 recruiting class. But will this be the year he cracks the code and brings a few Georgia players north to Columbus to play their college football?

Coach Meyer is off to a great start in this year’s recruiting cycle. He started the 2018 class off by picking up a commitment from Emory Jones, the No. 1 dual threat quarterback in the nation. Ohio State appears to be in the lead for two other players from Georgia as well.

Linebacker Michael Harris from Tucker, Georgia is the 15th ranked inside linebacker in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite and he obviously is very fond of the prospect of playing for Ohio State. Here is what Harris told Land Of 10 prior to receiving a scholarship offer to Ohio State.

"“I was raised in Ohio,” Harris told Land of 10. “I lived there my first couple years. I’ve been back a few summers and still have family up there. I was up there last summer.”“I’m hearing from the boss man, coach Urban Meyer,” Harris said. “(Quarterbacks coach Ryan) Day, Mark Pantoni and (new linebackers coach Billy) Davis. We’ve talked about (a potential offer), but they want to know me better. One thing I don’t have is someone to drive me eight hours up there.“I’ve always loved that school and always said I was going to go there. If my dreams come true, it just shows me that anything can happen if I put my mind to it. All the work that I’ve put in is for that offer to come. It would mean a lot to me.”"

Harris has now received his offer and could very well be one of the next commitments to the 2018 Ohio State class.

Tre Douglas from McDonough, Georgia is the No. 28 cornerback in the country, and he told Eleven Warriors Ohio State is his leader among the 30+ schools who have offered him. Think Kerry Coombs may have a chance with this guy after all of the cornerbacks he has sent to the NFL?

It’s a long time until National Signing Day so anything can happen in the 2018 class before then. But Urban Meyer appears to have a good chance at a successful year recruiting the state of Georgia.

It certainly helps having the top ranked QB in the nation as your lead recruiter in the state. And it can’t hurt to have a home-grown product like Vonn Bell earning an NFL paycheck, and another one in Raekwon McMillan who is about to do so as well.

As he has in Georgia, Urban Meyer spent a lot of time and effort in Texas before he made inroads in recruiting. However, he had tremendous success in the 2017 class with five outstanding players from the Lone Star State. Will this be the year he has similar results recruiting the talent rich state of Georgia?
