Will Texas recruits convince this player to join them in the Ohio State recruiting class?

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer has made tremendous inroads in the state of Texas lately. He has three outstanding recruits from the Lone Star State in the 2017 class and a JUCO transfer, and at least two of them are making a push to bring another Texan into the fold.

Defensive back Jeffrey Okudah, linebacker Baron Browning and running back J.K. Dobbins are already enrolled at Ohio State, and Kendall Sheffield will arrive in the summer. Browning and Okudah are making a big push to persuade defensive tackle Marvin Wilson from Bellaire, Texas to come to Columbus as well.

The three have been in communication often lately, and active on twitter concerning the Buckeyes. Will the two early enrollees power of persuasion, and the in-home visit by Urban Meyer and Larry Johnson, be enough to convince Wilson to come to Ohio State?

Why all the fuss over one player? Like his two buddies, Wilson is the No. 1 player in the nation at his position. In fact, all three players are ranked among the 11 best players at any position according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

The 6’4, 329 pound Wilson appears to be a player who can step in and contribute immediately, like big Jonathan Hankins did as a true freshman in 2010. That would be a great situation for Ohio State, not only to provide immediate depth, but starting nose tackle Michael Hill will be gone after next season.

Will the Texas contingent be enough to steal Wilson away from LSU, the presumed favorite in this recruiting war? We won’t find out the answer until National Signing Day. Wilson has said he won’t make his decision until then.

Urban Meyer is in contention for another 4 star defensive tackle, Jay Tufele. Tufele is listed at 6’3, 297 pounds and has been a high priority target for Urban Meyer for some time now.

It will be difficult to get the No. 3 ranked defensive tackle out of Utah but coaches Meyer and Johnson are making a strong push at the end. Like Wilson, Tufele will announce his decision on signing day.

Ohio State already has a couple of 4 star defensive tackles in the 2017 class and they are players any coach would love to have. Haskell Garrett is the No. 6 ranked DT in the nation and Jerron Cage is No. 13.

But if Urban Meyer could add Wilson and/or Tufele, it would be an unbelievable defensive tackle haul. You can bet that Urban will have two scholarships available on signing day, just in case both players choose to play for the Buckeyes.
