Teams the Buckeyes Can’t Afford To Overlook in 2015

The Hokies handed the Buckeyes their first and only loss of their championship season. In what was J.T. Barrett’s second career start, the Columbus faithful saw their young quarterback toss three interceptions, including a game-sealing pick-six in the late stages of the fourth quarter.
Versatile quarterback Michael Brewer made plays in the most crucial of moments, guiding Virginia Tech to a 35-21 victory. That heartbreaking loss would spur Ohio State’s historic run and set the stage for their rematch that will take place on September 7.
Why the Hokies have a chance:
Michael Brewer followed up his solid 2014 campaign with a great spring. By most accounts, Brewer is the most improved and most valuable player on the Hokies, as far as spring practices go. Dynamic tight end Bucky Hodges is also back in the fold, and Brewer has reportedly been able to build somewhat of a rapport with the offensive line, but besides that, much of their offense is still in flux. It’s on defense where this rematch will be won or lost for the Hokies.

A pair of possible future first-round picks in cornerback Kendall Fuller and linebacker Dadi Nicolas both lead the way defensively. Behind those two studs sit a disruptive, experienced unit that’ll attempt to rattle Urban Meyer’s offense in Blacksburg.
The Hokies’ defense is not at full strength quite yet, however, and currently awaits the return of five projected starters in defensive end Ken Ekanem, defensive tackles Luther Maddy and Corey Marshall, cornerback Brandon Facyson, as well as their star man in Fuller.
If Virginia Tech’s defense can get fully healthy by their opener, the odds increase for the Hokies under the lights at home when the Buckeyes are their most vulnerable in the early goings of the season.
