The Ohio State football team is coming off the biggest win they've had under Ryan Day. Winning on the road at Penn State against a top-five team is as good as it gets. The 20-13 victory signals that this team is back to being a true contender for the national championship.

Will Howard is the leader of the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was fired up after this victory. He grew up a Penn State fan and they weren't interested in him. He was the one who got the last laugh. After this win, he has already put up better numbers than last year's starting quarterback.

Last year's quarterback was, of course, Kyle McCord. The Buckeyes decided they wanted to move in a different direction. McCord transferred to Syracuse and hasn't exactly played like an all-conference quarterback. The numbers Howard has for Ohio State compared to what McCord did for them are startling.

Will Howard already has the same number of touchdowns for the Ohio State football team as Kyle McCord did

Through eight games this season, Howard has 24 total touchdowns. Last season, the Buckeyes got 24 total touchdowns for the entire season. Howard clearly lifts this team's ceiling more than McCord ever did wearing an Ohio State uniform. He also has better numbers than McCord does this season.

McCord has 23 total touchdowns this season, one fewer than Howard. McCord also has a whopping 12 interceptions. Meanwhile, Howard has just five. Howard is completing 73% of his passes and McCord is completing 64% of his passes. Howard averages 9.7 yards per attempt with McCord averaging just 7.2.

In every possible way, Howard has been an upgrade over McCord. He has become the quarterback that they hoped McCord was going to be. While Howard isn't spectacular like C.J. Stroud or Justin Field were, he's doing enough to help the Buckeyes win big games.

Howard is good enough for this team to win a national championship. That's something out of the QB position Ohio State didn't have a year ago.
