There was a lot of pressure surrounding the Ohio State football team last November. After yet another loss to TTUN, fans were calling for Ryan Day to be fired. The team could not have had worse vibes around them heading into the home College Football Playoff game against Tennessee.
That loss seemed to rally this team together. They shut out the outside noise, and they just focused on them and what they could control. They went on the best four-game run in college football history in order to win the national championship. It was the best four-game run Ryan Day had as well.
Day was able to get Chip Kelly to call a more aggressive game plan for their final games. The Buckeyes were able to get their offense to do something they hadn't done all year; play with reckless abandon. They did and won a national title. Now, Day is able to relax.
Why the Ohio State football team will see the best of Ryan Day in 2025
Day even mentioned that he is more relaxed heading into this season. He's more relaxed because he knows he has more leash. Winning a national championship has bought him a few years with the fanbase. That makes things a lot easier for him heading into 2025.
Now that Day saw the success of last season's postseason run, he will empower Brian Hartline to call things aggressively. He will make sure that he gets the ball to the best playmakers on the team. That will allow us to see the best of what Day has to offer as the head coach.
Day has empowered both of his coordinators to run their units. It's clear that having him in more of a CEO-type role has done wonders for the team. Day has kept his hands out of play-calling, and that clearly worked. It should work again in 2025.
