The Ohio State football team just announced a bunch of coaching hires in the last couple of days. They decided to make all of the hiring announcements at once, including both coordinators. The Buckeyes also announced the hiring of several analysts on the offensive side of the ball.

Hiring so many analysts on the offensive side of the ball was a smart move. Now that there is no limit on the number of coaches that teams can have on the sidelines for gameday, the Buckeyes took advantage of the new rules. It was smart of them to do that on the offensive side of the ball.

Ohio State will have a defensive coordinator who hasn't coordinated an elite defense in a while. He hasn't coached in college in 20+ years. Matt Patricia needs some help with how to do things at the college level. They should hire a few analysts to help him, too.

Any help that Patricia can get is welcome help. Bringing in more defensive analysts would help Patricia assimilate to the college game and how it's played. There is no downside for Ohio State to bring more guys in. It can only help them moving forward.

Ryan Day has proven that he is a smart coach. Now that he has won a national championship, he has more confidence in what he's doing. He should be confident enough to hire more defensive analysts who can help Patricia figure things out as he gets more comfortable with things.

Who those analysts are should be determined by Patricia. He needs to have coaches on his staff who he can work well with. He needs to be on the same page with whoever he would bring in. Day should give him some recommendations on who to bring in and have Patricia interview them.

I'm still extremely skeptical about this hire. Patricia has a chance to change the narrative by leading a top defense this season. Hiring some guys who know the collegiate game would certainly help him do just that.
