Ryan Day has brought stability to the Ohio State football program. While they don't win national championships every year, Day did win the title in 2024. He also has the program competing in the College Football Playoff every single season, which gives them a chance to compete for a title.

With that being the case, the Ohio State Buckeyes are certainly keeping their eyes on what is happening around the rest of college football. Fans are also interested in what other programs are doing to improve their teams every offseason. Something big just happened in the SEC.

According to multiple reports, Alabama has agreed to a seven-year extension with Kalen DeBoer. That extension will pay him around $12.5 million annually, locking him with the Crimson Tide for quite a while. That's great news for fans of the Buckeyes who hate the SEC.

Why Ohio State football fans should be thrilled with Kalen DeBoer's new extension

In DeBoer's three years leading the Crimson Tide, he is 20-8. DeBoer has also made the College Football Playoff twice. However, he is just 1-2 in those games. Simply put, he has shown that he has not been able to keep up the standard that Nick Saban had that program at.

That is good news for the Buckeyes. That's one fewer program that they have to compete with when it comes to winning a national championship. DeBoer has yet to show that he can get the Crimson Tide into a position to consistently be a contender for a national championship.

Ever since NIL payments were deemed legal, the SEC has struggled to keep up. The Big Ten has won three straight national championships, and it doesn't look like the conference is going to stop winning at the highest level anytime soon. The Crimson Tide hasn't figured that out yet.

Locking DeBoer into a long, expensive contract seems like a win for everyone involved for Ohio State.
