Why Ryan Day won't be coy naming this one Ohio State football starter

Ryan Day is going to learn from the mistake he made a couple of years ago.

The Ohio State football program will have 15 new starters this season. After winning the national championship, the Buckeyes must replace some very productive players. Usually Ryan Day waits a while to determine certain starters when there is a positional battle going on.

That has largely been the case when it comes to the quarterback position. Day has waited until the last second to announce the starter. That wasn't the case last year when he named Will Howard the starter pretty early on in Fall camp. Everyone knew that's why he transferred into the program in the first place.

This year, there is an actual battle going on at the quarterback position between Julian Sayin and Lincoln Kienholz. While Kienholz is going to continue to fight for the job, it is likely Sayin who will be the starter. Day shouldn't wait very long into practice to name him the starter.

Ryan Day will likely name a starting quarterback for the Ohio State football team relatively quickly into Fall

The Buckeyes had a quarterback issue a couple of years ago when it was between Kyle McCord and Devin Brown. Day didn't officially name McCord the starter until the second week of the season. That was an extreme case that hadn't happened very often.

Still, it was a mistake that Day learned from. Last year, it didn't take long to name Howard as the leader of the program. This year, he should do the same with Sayin. He will likely name Sayin the starter very soon once they start practicing, unless something crazy happens.

The sooner that the Ohio State Buckeyes name a starting quarterback, the better. That will allow fans and the rest of the team to know who their leader will be for the entire season. It will also prevent any controversies, as well.
