The transfer portal is getting ready to come to a close for most of college football. It opened on December 9th, and now it will close on Saturday afternoon. A lot of players have already entered their name into the portal, including a few Ohio State football players.
That doesn't mean that more Buckeyes can't enter the portal once it closes. That's the closing date for most of college football. Because the College Football Playoff expanded to 12 teams, the season is now the longest it has ever been. That means that there will be some later entries this season.
Because of the new CFP, the Ohio State Buckeyes have a different date for when their transfer portal window closes, but it is a floating date. That does for every team that is still left in the CFP. Expect more Buckeyes to enter the portal in the next month or so.
The transfer portal closes for the Ohio State football team after they lose
The transfer portal will open for five days following the conclusion of the Buckeyes' season, whenever that is. If it's New Year's Day, the portal will be open until January 6th for them. If it's after the National Championship Game, then it will open on January 21st for them and close on January 26th.
That is the case for every team left in the College Football Playoff. The Buckeyes are hoping that the portal doesn't open for them until that late January date. That would mean that they are playing for a national championship. Before that happens, they have to beat Oregon next week.
It remains to be seen how many players decide to enter the portal once Ohio State's season does eventually end. They have had a few players already decide to enter, but there will be at least a half-dozen more once the season is over.
