The Ohio State football team will have a Spring Game this season. There was a question as to whether or not the Buckeyes were going to have that coming into the year. It was something that Ryan Day wouldn't commit to for quite a while. he wanted to give himself an out in case there were injuries.
Now that he has confirmed that there will be a Spring Game, the fans will get a chance to see this year's version of the team as they head to the Shoe. It won't be a showcase, which likely would have entailed more seven-on-seven as opposed actual football being played.
So now that we know that there going to be more of a traditional game being played this season, what should fans expect from the game? What should fans watch closely during the Spring Game that could give them some insight as to what the depth chart will look like this Fall?
What Ohio State football fans can expect from the Spring Game
If you're expecting to figure out who the starting quarterback is going to be, you will be disappointed. Day won't officially name a starter until the Fall. While it likely will be Julian Sayin, he has to show more consistency in order to earn the right to be the starter for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Fans can expect to learn what kind of defense the Buckeyes will be running. Matt Patricia hasn't told the media what his base defense will be under him. Under Jim Knowles, they ran a 4-2-5. Patricia has the reputation of running multiple defenses, so it will be interesting to see what he comes out to start the Spring Game with.
The fans can also expect to see who the Buckeyes deem worthy of being the first-team offensive line. There are still some battles being waged up front, but that will give us a better idea of who they see as the favorite up to this point.
The Spring Game is just a week and a half away. It will be a great time for fans to see what the 2025 version of the Buckeyes look like.
