The Ohio State Buckeyes are National Champions once again, and head coach Ryan Day has officially reached the promised Land after all the doubt, hate, and disbelief. After the play clock struck zero, Day threw his headset into the crowd and was met with a Gatorade dump from his players, knowing he had finally done it.
Ohio State senior defensive end Jack Sawyer, who college football fans fell in love with before the game after hearing his touching story of honoring 17-year-old Jack B. Sawyer, who lost his battle to cancer in 2023, also felt the joy of winning the championship, especially being a hometown kid.
After the game, when Day was met on the field to be interviewed, in the middle of it all, Sawyer came up and just bear-hugged his coach from behind, screaming, "National Champions, baby!" The two then shared an even bigger embrace as the cameras followed them, thus signaling that Day wasn't going to finish that interview.
That interaction between Day and Sawyer speaks to how much these players love and respect their head coach. A head coach who, at times, has been dragged through the mud and been accused of not knowing how to be successful, especially when it comes to the rivalry games or the biggest games when the lights shine brightest.
This is a team that has stuck together, some players have been around for four years when they easily could be playing in the NFL right now. Others knew that coming to this program would mean they were building something special and it all came to the pinnacle conclusion last night as the Buckeyes hoisted that championship trophy in the air, finally reclaiming their spot at the top of the mountain.
Ryan Day and Jack Sawyer, keep being who you are and keep the love of this team going because it is truly something special.
