Urban Meyer will certainly go down as one of the best coaches at Ohio State, and to this day, fans still take everything he says to heart. If Meyer believes in something, fans do as well; however, his latest comments when talking about The Team Up North are going to have fans wondering what is going on.
Meyer came out and spoke about Michigan hiring former Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham, and while he said he questioned the decision at first, thinking as a Buckeye, he actually believes it was a great move for TTUN.
Buckeyes fans probably can't believe that Meyer is actually complimenting TTUN for the decision they made, even saying that Whittingham is a perfect fit for the team. It is understandable that Meyer is friends with Whittingham, but once he joined the Wolverines, he became the ultimate enemy.
"I’m a Buckeye, so my first thought was, ‘What?’" Meyer said. "He’s my friend. Kyle and I are really close, but it didn’t take long for me to put two and two together. Not only did I tell him that I think it was a great move, but it was exactly what that school in Ann Arbor needed. They fell into the perfect guy.”

With how intense the rivalry is between Ohio State and TTUN, it is surprising that Meyer would say anything nice about the Wolverines, or that they did a great job in selecting their next coach, especially in football. This is a rivalry that is bigger than any other rivalries in college football, and fans
Whittingham is probably a nice guy and a good coach, but no Ohio State fan is going to want to see him succeed at TTUN. Meyer shouldn't want to see him succeed either, as a former Buckeyes head coach.
Ohio State finally got the win it had been craving for four straight years against the Wolverines in the 2025 season, and they have no plans of going back to the losing ways. Whittingham is going to have to get used to Ohio State being the team to beat because the Buckeyes aren't planning on ever going away.
