Ohio State football fans have been clamoring for Urban Meyer to come back and coach the Buckeyes. Ohio State still hasn't fired Ryan Day, and likely won't do so until the College Football Playoff run is finished, if they decide to fire him at all.

The Ohio State Buckeyes still have a shot to win a national championship. If that does happen, then Day will be able to stay on the job. Meyer has been one of the coaches that Buckeye fans would love to have back. There are certainly pros and cons to having him back.

It doesn't look like Ohio State football fans are going to have an opportunity to see it. Meyer has released a statement after hearing the rumors surrounding him. While I never thought that Ohio State would bring him back in the first place, Meyer is taking himself out of the running.

Urban Meyer won't be returning to coach the Ohio State football team

Meyer released the following statement regarding the Ohio State head coaching job.

As you can see, Meyer. has no interest in returning for this job, even if it were open. The Buckeyes likely wouldn't have thought of hiring him in the first place. After the way that his tenure ended in 2018, it wouldn't make any sense for the administration to bring him back.

Meyer has a good gig. He loves talking on TV, going to games, and being able to talk about college football. It's also better for his health if he stays off the sidelines. This statement also allows Day to try to pick the pieces of his team back together and go on a national title run.

My hope is that the Buckeyes ultimately hire Mike Vrabel. We'll see if that's something that happens. First, Ohio State has games they are still trying to win.
