Tyler Bowen is clearly on the hot seat after these comments from Ryan Day

The Ohio State offensive line coach might be in trouble once the season is over.

The Ohio State Buckeyes fell to USC last weekend. It was a disappointing result against the Trojans. Ryan Day is trying to assess why that happened, and there are a multitude of reasons for that. Ohio State was horribly coached, which was disappointing, considering they had two weeks to prepare for it.

Tyler Bowen has received plenty of criticism this year after the offensive line failed to play well all year long. Last weekend was the worst performance of the year, as the right side of the offensive line did not do Luke Fahey any favors. Now, Tyler Bowen has a good reason to fear for his job.

Ryan Day doesn't give Tyler Bowen a vote of confidence

During his weekly press conference, Day was asked specifically about Tyler Bowen and his future. Day didn't exactly give him a vote of confidence moving forward.

“Something that you've got to evaluate everybody. That's the thing about being at Ohio State: the expectations are very high. There are definitely some positive things that have gone on there, but when you come out of the last game or two, I think there’s just been too many mistakes there, and so we have to improve on that."

Day went to talk about how the offensive line has had too many penalties to be acceptable.

“We know what needs to get done, and we've had too many penalties, too many missed assignments. I think everybody in that room would tell you that, there's no guys screwing around, any of that. I think he would tell you the same thing. He's gonna get back to work. We all know what the expectation is.”

If I were Bowen, I would be very nervous about my job. He hasn't shown the ability to develop offensive linemen, and his recruiting hasn't inspired much confidence, either. He hasn't been able to turn anyone into a first-round pick or anywhere close.

The Buckeyes are in trouble if Tyler Bowen doesn't improve

If Bowen isn't able to get his players to perform better, the Buckeyes might have a problem making the College Football Playoff. They have two losses on the season, and that means their backs are against the wall. That means that Ohio State has to win out to make the CFP.

Ohio State is in trouble if Bowen isn't able to get his guys to actually play well. The entire offensive line has struggled all year long, despite the fact that four starters returned from last year. The only starter who left was Tegra Tshabola, who is actually thriving with Kentucky.

Bowen might need to update his resume and start looking for other jobs if he wants to continue coaching offensive linemen. The Buckeyes deserve to have a better offensive line than what they have shown this year, and with the resources they have going into the football program, there's no reason they shouldn't.

Ohio State needs to win out for Bowen to save his job. Even if that happens, that might not be enough unless the Buckeyes end up winning the national championship.
