The Ohio State football team is looking for some help in the transfer portal. After the Spring Game, it was clear that the defensive line was a massive issue. Perhaps this shouldn't be a big surprise considering the Buckeyes are replacing their entire starting defensive line from last season.
Ohio State doesn't have anyone who has a lot of proven production on the roster. While they are all talented, it's all unproven talent. Ryan Day mentioned that they would likely take a look in the Spring transfer portal for some talent up front to help them ahead of the Fall.
It seems that Day has found someone that they like enough to bring in for a visit. The Ohio State Buckeyes are bringing in defensive end Beau Atkinson for a visit from the portal. Atkinson entered the portal after playing two seasons at North Carolina.
The Ohio State football team will bring in DE Beau Atkinson for a visit
Atkinson had a really solid season for the Tar Heels last year, recording 7.5 sacks. He had 35 total tackles. Ohio State isn't the only school that Atkinson has scheduled a visit with, though. Atkinson will make a visit to the University of Georgia, as well.
The Buckeyes certainly need someone who can rush the passer, and Atkinson would certainly help them now. Atkinson is likely not the only defensive lineman that Ohio State will reach out to. They might need help at defensive tackle more than they do at defensive end.
This is the biggest position of need that the Buckeyes need to address in the transfer portal. That doesn't mean that they won't have some players from other positions that they look to bring in. Ohio State is still one of the most talented teams in the country.
Atkinson will likely make a decision relatively quickly after he makes these visits. That means the Buckeyes will learn in relatively short order where they stand against the Bulldogs.
