The Ohio State basketball team is looking for something good to happen. After losing out on Darrion Williams, the Buckeyes aren't doing great on the transfer portal front. Even though they have landed a few guys from the portal, none of them are true difference-makers.
Losing out on Williams certainly hurts, but he's not the only big-time transfer portal player that the Ohio State Buckeyes are in on. Jamir Watkins, a 6'7 guard from Florida State, is in the transfer portal, and Ohio State is one of the schools that he is considering.
Watkins is one of the best scorers in the transfer portal, averaging 18.4 points per game last season for the Seminoles. Adding a player of his size and skill would be huge for the Buckeyes heading into a big season for Jake Diebler in his second year as head coach.
The Ohio State basketball team has a shot to land dymanic guard Jamir Watkins from the transfer portal
Ohio State has a chance at Watkins, but there are plenty of other schools in on him. This is the kind of player that Diebler would love to have in his system. Defensively, he's versatile because of his size. Offensively, he does a great job of getting to the rim. He can rebound, too.
Pairing him next to Bruce Thornton would be great for the Buckeyes next season. It would be great if Ohio State could finally land a top-tier transfer portal prospect who will actually help the team. Aaron Bradshaw was supposed to be that player last season, but he failed to do anything.
Ohio State needs to get someone who can help them make the NCAA Tournament. It has been three years since they made the Tournament, and that is unacceptable for a program with the resources Ohio State has. This has been too long.
