The Ohio State football team is the defending national champion. Despite that happening just a week ago, it feels like a year ago with everything that's already happened. The Buckeyes are looking to replace their defensive coordinator and rumors are swirling about their offensive coordinator.

Still, being the defending champions certainly helps when it comes to recruiting. The Buckeyes have taken their attention to the 2026 recruiting class. Ohio State is looking for their quarterback in the next class. They are hoping that it could be Brady Smigiel.

Smigiel just de-committed from Florida State after having been committed to the Seminoles since June. He is rated as a four-star recruit from the state of New Jersey. He was actually visited by Chip Kelly on Sunday, which is why he was not present at Ohio State's national title celebration.

Ohio State football team named as top school by 2026 QB

Soon after Smigiel de-committed from the Seminoles, he released a list of top schools he is interested in. The Ohio State football team was listed as one of them. Five of the six schools that he named as schools that "stand out" are in the Big Ten.

Besides Ohio State, Michigan, UCLA, Michigan State, Washington, and South Carolina are schools that he listed. Obviously, the Buckeyes have some competition from fellow Big Ten schools if they want to get him. Florida State has completely dropped out.

Smigiel is someone who the Buckeyes like. His accuracy is what makes him coveted. He has a good arm, but not a great one. He's also not a great runner. Those two things are keeping him from being a five-star recruit right now. He can work on that heading into his senior season, though.

The Buckeyes could land him if Kelly ends up staying in Columbus. He's great with quarterbacks, as everyone knows.
