The Ohio State football program has proved that they are one of the best programs in college football. When you are one of the best teams year in and year out, you are bound to play in some great games. That certainly has been the case over the last 25 years.
The Buckeyes have not only played in a lot of big games, but also a lot of close, compelling games. Most of those weren't last season, as Ohio State rolled in most of their wins. There are three games that stand out over the last 25 years, according to The Athletic.
In a list put together by The Athletic of the 25 best games in the last 25 years, three of those games were games that featured the Ohio State Buckeyes. None of the games ranked higher than sixth, but all of them are instant classics that Buckeye fans should remember.
Three Ohio State football games are considered one of the best 25 games played since 2000
The first one on the list is The Game of the Century in 2006. It remains the only time in history that Ohio State and Michigan were the top two teams in the country when they matched up. Ohio State would go on to win that game 42-39 and play Florida for the national title. That game came in at 18 on the list.
Tenth on the list is a more recent game that is painful for Buckeye fans. It's the Peach Bowl against Georgia in 2022 that saw the Buckeyes lose 42-41 after Noah Ruggles missed a 50-yard game-winning field goal just after the stroke of midnight.
Sixth on the list was Ohio State's double overtime thriller over Miami in 2002 to capture Ohio State's first national championship since 1968. That 14-0 team remains one of the best teams of all time, and they defeated perhaps the most talented college football team ever.
Over the next 25 years, Ohio State is bound to play in more great games. Let's just hope that they come out on the right end of those games.
